Primary Economy – Analytical Investment

1. A farmer has a hill sheep farm, and has been offered tractors and machinery so that he can produce crops. He must supply wool in return. Should he take up the offer?
A hill sheep farm revolves around the rearing of livestock and the machinery that he was provided was to grow crops that was not his sole means of farming and it is impossible to operate heavy machinery on the hills. It is a nomadic primary activity and it is too difficult to transport these machinery products.

2. A farmer is looking forward to mechanization of his arable farm. He needs help in digging furrows in soil, sowing seeds, and cutting crops. What machines should he invest in?
He needs ploughing machinery, a harvester and seed drill.

3. A lot of sheep die on the high hill sheep farm during winter. What should the farmer do?
We can move them downhill to a higher temperature or we could just prevent them from sheering them off so that they can produce enough body heat for themselves.

4. It is too dry in the arable farm, and the crops might die due to insufficient water supply. How can you save them?We can use natural resources of water to gain water in order to create a sufficient supply of water such as wells, canals and water pumps.

5. There is too much work on the farm despite the mechanization. The laborers who work all year round with the farmer threaten to quit. What should be done?
The farmers could just hire some more people, the production will increase and the labourers will not leave and the costs of their salaries can be compensated through increase in profits.

6. There is very little grass on the sheep farm during winter, and the animals don’t have enough food. What can be done?
We can feed them Rabi crops that are grown in the winters such as wheat and they can act as a good source of food.

7. Crops in the arable farm might die as water has accumulated due to flooding by heavy rainfall. What should the farmer do?
Good drainage system and water pumps!
