A pleasant time of the day to all who have gathered here today to indulge into the world of moral philosophy but before diving into this intriguing world , I would like to tell you what “Ethics” really means to me as an individual. This term means certain standards of right and wrong that are set in society that prescribe the actions of humans on the basis of several aspects such as truth, basic rights, obligations, societal benefit and even sophisticated virtues. These are the degrees that are set by the community but I personally believe that each discrete person must unfold the mystery of his own ethical thinking and moral value. Everybody has a different manner of interpreting their meaning or contribution in our entangled world and we can not take this right away from them by setting a behavioural standard. Rather than compelling a person into becoming an ethical robot, we must encourage them to advance themselves into better versions of oneself, all they need is a nudge in the right direction and the ability to take a leap into faith.

I will now be revealing the truth of mankind to mankind. The truth is that whenever we tend to do something that is morally inappropriate, there is the generation of a voice in the back of the head that suggests it may be an offensive, pessimist or ignorant idea. A warning! Some people ignore this voice while others shove it deep down in their thinking process while others opt to embrace them. As soon as you agree to this voice, you achieve enlightenment because that is the true existing soul of yours, you have found yourself. This voice becomes your guide in every situation and scenario and clears all your clouded thoughts, this is the truth of the universe.

I will now describe through examples how this little voice is able to process all areas of information and prove itself to be more effective than “Ethics.” We are going to look at a renowned technique of testament of a person. The trolley problem is a thought experiment in ethics where the onlooker has to choose between saving the lives of 5 people by diverting and killing an innocent person. Ethically speaking, the right decision would be to preserve the lives of the majority of people but let me alter the scenario a little bit to the factor that that one person is a close relative of yours. The actions ethically will remain the same but their consequences will be haunting. You might be rewarded by society for your quick decision making and courage but you would be frowned upon by the people most important to you and this gnawing feeling of torture will always burn like a raging fire within yourself and in the other case, the entire community will disregard you and one will become an outcast but you would earn a place in the heart of your family but the intense and threatening feeling would still manage to petrify you. Only if you could listen to the voice of your heart and soul, you could make a decision that is reasonable to you and all the confusion will be sorted out and the guilt will be enveloped by the satisfaction and surety in your actions. Therefore, that voice beats centuries of ethical development.I would like to thank you for being a part of this ride through Moral Philosophy.
